After Pneumatic Rubber Tires Were Introduced On Farm Tractors In The Fall Of 1936, Many Farmers Removed The Lugs On Their Steel-Wheeled Tractors And Bolted Old Tires Or Belting To The Wheels In An Efffort To Achieve Some Of The Fuel Efficiency That Was Being Attained By Pneumatic Tire Equipment. The Practice Had Only Moderat Successs, And Seriously Limited Maximum Traction
